Shame Announce New Album and Share “Fingers of Steel”

Shame is at it again: UK rockers are set to release their next album Worm food on February 24 via Dead Oceans, and they celebrate the announcement today with their groundbreaking single Fingers of Steel. In addition, the group has scheduled their largest headlining tour to date for 2023, touring across Europe and North America.

In a press release, he describes frontman Charlie Steen Worm food As “Lamborghini Records of Infamy”. We can’t confirm or deny this analogy, but it’s true that the record marks a huge step in maturity for the London post-punks, who usher in a more polished sound here without overcompensating for their edge. They cite the influence of Lou Reed, as well as 1990s indie rock group Bloomfield (Germany’s answer to Pavement or the Pixies) during the writing process. Pre-orders for the record are ongoing.

You can hear those references in the song “Fingers of Steel,” which expands and aims to a higher level than any Shame has performed so far. It also carries a kind of quality, which matches the song’s lyrical themes for finding motivation in dark times: “You know you’re getting lost/There’s a sun outside but you don’t see it,” sings Sten.

Shame kicks off their tour on March 1st at Dublin’s Baton Factory. They will hit North America on May 10th in Durham, North Carolina before hitting cities including Brooklyn, Chicago and Austin. The finale ends June 4th at the Toulouse Theater in New Orleans. Public sale goes on sale Friday, November 18th at 10:00 AM ET, and you can get your tickets at Ticketmaster.
